In detail…
Cacao is grown by 21 smallholder-farmer families. They have received in depth training on financial literacy to ensure they have the knowledge to sustain their farms whilst doing what is needed to provide for their families. Whilst our enterprise grows it is our duty to ensure that the farmers who make our products so unique, have the prime opportunity to grow with us, both financially and on social level.
Community plays a massive part in what we do. So much so that Fire Mountain has signed an agreement to support local organisation NGO RINOO, which focuses on tackling period poverty and enhancing education in Cameroon. Our mission with this product is to benefit the futures of generations to come and share the Cameroonian cocoa flavour with the specialty market.
The farmers in Cameroon are affected by a civil war. This conflict has been going on for years and has displaced over 680,000 people. Many people have lost their lives and those that remain have lost their homes and been made refugees due to the conflict. Working directly in cohesion with the farmers from these areas benefits them ensuring they are accompanied and assisted during production. Premium prices for their crop are paid for the extra efforts they make to guarantee high quality production; this allows them to have a better quality of life and also be able to sustain a living whilst so many people have moved away from the area, driving
demand for goods down. The farmers getting a living wage for their crops enables them to send their children to school.
FIRE MOUNTAIN CACAO
On the active volcano Mount Cameroon, indigenously named “Mongo ma Ndemi” (Mountain of Greatness), Fire Mountain Cacao is grown and harvested with extra care. Mount Cameroon is the 4th most prominent peak in Africa, with the highest elevation point being 13,250ft.
